Privacy

What we collect

• Your email, when you create an account or save your flying review.
• The flight tracks you choose to upload (IGC files) and the data we derive from them: your flight stats, the sites you flew, and your wrapped summary. IGC files contain the time and GPS location of your flights.
• Anything optional you give us, such as your XContest username.
• Basic technical data, your browser type and IP address, used to run the service and keep it secure.

Why we use it

• To build your flying review and, if you ask us to, save and share it.
• To sign you in and contact you about your account. We will not send you marketing you did not ask for.
• To improve Paraguide and its coaching, using flight data in aggregate or de-identified form.
• To build comparison insights across all the flying on Paraguide: how a wing performs in practice, how many pilots fly it and for how long, what the flying at a site looks like, and what pilots move on to next. This uses flight and equipment data without your name attached.

Learning from other flights

The platform we are building uses contributed tracks to compare flights and show relevant route examples to signed-in pilots. For example, replaying a similar flight near where you landed, or exploring flights from a site with a particular duration. Examples will not display names, handles or profile links, but removing those details does not guarantee a GPS route cannot be recognised.

These features are planned. Before they launch we will provide contribution controls and ask existing pilots who joined under the earlier, aggregate-only wording to accept the expanded use. Earlier uploads do not become eligible for route examples just because this page changes.

Public route browsing is a possible later direction, not enabled by uploading today. We will explain its audience and data use and obtain any additional permission needed before enabling it. External licensing of aggregate insights, described below, is separate from displaying individual route examples in the app.

Public gear information and reviews

Gear reviews and ratings you publish are contributions for public display and search indexing, together with the reviewer identity and experience information shown when you publish. Equipment data also supports collective gear statistics. This does not make your full logbook, personal notes or account details public.

We use wing and equipment information to develop a publicly searchable catalogue of specifications, ratings, reviews and statistics from real flying. Public pages can be indexed by search engines. Review attribution and experience summaries are distinct from publishing the underlying flight tracks. We will explain public publication at the point of contribution; reviews previously collected for a narrower audience will not be made public solely because this policy changes.

Legal basis

Under UK and EU GDPR we rely on your consent, you choose to upload your flights and sign up, and on our legitimate interest in running and improving the product. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Where it is stored, and for how long

Your data is held by our hosting provider (Supabase), and uploaded files are kept in private storage. We keep it while Paraguide is in preview or your account is active, and delete it on request.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Your saved flying-review deck stays private unless you choose to share its unguessable link. Direct flight sharing and public gear contributions have the separate audiences described here. We use a small number of providers to run the service (hosting and email), each bound to protect your data.

Direct sharing of your flights with your name, handle or profile follows your community or public visibility choice. Public gear reviews may carry the reviewer attribution described in the gear section. Aggregate insights describe totals and patterns across many pilots. Planned route examples are a separate use: they may show an individual flight path without displaying the pilot’s name or profile. These features are not live yet.

We count page views through Vercel Analytics so we can see which parts of the site people use. It sets no cookie, stores no identifier for you, and cannot follow you to other sites. It is not tied to your account or your flights.

Insights built from many pilots’ flying

As well as powering features inside Paraguide, insights drawn from all the flying on it may in future be shared or licensed outside the product. For example: a wing maker learning how its gliders perform in real use rather than on a test bench, a site or lift operator understanding how many pilots fly there, or a forecast provider checking its models against what the air actually did.

Those insights describe patterns across many pilots, never you. We do not share your name, your handle, your account, your individual flights or your raw tracklogs, and we do not sell your personal data.

We are not doing this today. We are telling you now rather than changing the terms on you later, and we will update this page, with a new date at the top, before any of it begins. Your flying is included unless you say otherwise. You can switch it out yourself in Settings, in one tap, before or after any of this starts. Nothing else about your account changes, and you can switch back whenever you like.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, or delete your data, or withdraw consent, by emailing hello@paraguide.io. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).

Children

Paraguide is for adults and is not intended for anyone under 16.
